Nicole Wiesen, PHD, LMSW, CCTS
Welcome. I’m Dr. Nicole Wiesen, and my practice focuses on supporting individuals who have experienced incarceration, reentry, and the lasting effects that those experiences can have on emotional well-being, relationships, identity, and everyday life.
One of the areas I specialize in is Post-Incarceration Syndrome, or PICS. I use PICS as a psychoeducational framework to help us better understand some of the experiences that can occur during and after incarceration. It is not about putting another label on you or assuming that everything you are experiencing is because you were incarcerated.
Instead, we may explore how incarceration required you to adapt in order to survive and function in that environment and what happens when some of those adaptations come home with you.
Our work together is about understanding those connections without judgment.
We will look at what you have experienced, how you adapted, what continues to affect you today, and just as importantly the strengths and resilience that helped you survive and move forward.
Psychoeducation is one part of that process. I want you to understand what may be happening in your mind and body so that your experiences make more sense to you. From there, we can identify coping strategies, build on your strengths, improve relationships and emotional regulation, and develop tools that support the life you want to create now.
