Niara Carrenard
My therapeutic approach is grounded in liberation psychology and is integrative, drawing from person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic, and trauma-informed modalities. I center culturally responsive, anti-oppressive care that acknowledges the impact of systemic and structural violence. I value authenticity, collaboration, and co-creating a space where clients feel safe to be fully seen and supported, while also gently challenged toward growth and healing.
I work with adults navigating mood/anxiety disorders, trauma/PTSD, identity development, life transitions, grief/loss, relational concerns, and complex life stressors. I work with clients across all identities and specialize in working with clients from marginalized backgrounds, especially Black and Caribbean individuals, and queer clients.
I am a Haitian American clinician, fluent in Haitian Kreyol, second-generation, and queer. My identities, as well as my experience in hospital and community mental health settings, continue to shape my commitment to providing safe and culturally grounded community-based care.
