Many college students feel so alone with their problems. Parents, who may have been a source of support in the past may not be available or confiding in them may not be a good option. Central to my approach to counseling is my belief that the relationship between the client and the counselor is critical to effective counseling. Only when a client feels that they are fully heard, understood, accepted and valued without judgment, does change occur. These key factors are manifest through active listening, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and the development of a therapeutic alliance. That alliance is built around an agreement on the client’s goals. These goals must always be the client’s goals, no one else's. No problem is "too hard" and no revelation "too dark".
My expertise is in treating anxiety, panic, depression, grief, stress, procrastination and LGBTQ+ issues. I utilize evidenced-based treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT has the general characteristics of being transparent, briefer, focused more on the present than the past and being highly collaborative.
We ALL have had problems. We all encounter situations that overcome our coping resources, at least for a while. The good news is that we all have found solutions to our problems before. You are already a problem-solver and you have the resources and capabilities to address problems and find solutions. You just may need a little assistance. Let me help you.
