Minji Yang, Ph.D.

Psychologist, Ph.D.
Last Updated 15 days ago

A little bit about myself: My name is Minji Yang (she/her) and I go by Minji, Dr. Minji, or Dr. Yang. I grew up moving back and forth between South Korea and the U.S. (lived in the West, Midwest, and East coasts). These experiences led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Maryland at College Park (2015) where I specialized in racial minority and international student mental health. I am a Tenured Counselor Faculty and Internship Training Coordinator at San Jose State University's Counseling & Psychological Services and have my own private practice. I worked at 5 different university counseling centers with young adults from all identities and backgrounds on a variety of concerns such as different types of anxiety, depression, family/peer/romantic relationships, academic/career concerns, perfectionism, college adjustment, racial minority/gender identity/sexual orientation and other social identity-related stress and trauma, grief and loss and more. I also specialize in working with BIPOC and international/immigrant populations especially Asian/Asian American populations on the unique challenges they undergo. I also have an integrated approach and pull from psychodynamic, emotion-focused, and cognitive behavioral theories while considering multicultural factors and contexts.

I fundamentally believe that each person has lived their life to the best of their ability, however, they have developed various ways to cope due to various life circumstances, and that no longer seems to work. You might have tried different things to feel better but feel stuck, tired, and/or lost and not know what to do next. School might be important to you but find yourself not being able to focus or function in ways that you used to or want to. Please contact me so that we can first conduct a free consultation appointment, and see how I can be of help by using my past experience of working with various college students across the nation. I look forward to hearing from you!
