Hello. In order to help you make the right choice of therapist/counselor, here's some information about me and my practice.
1. I've been providing counseling and psychotherapy services for over 25 years.
2. I have a specialty in anxiety. But I have long experience working with a variety of issues--from anxiety and depression, to anger and guilt, to self-esteem and self-sabotage, to existential/spiritual struggles, to relationship and marriage...and more.
3. I treat each client as a unique individual. I do not impose a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Depending on the client's circumstances, interests, temperament, etc., different approaches and skills may be most helpful. I work well with both abstract/conceptual people, and with practical people, and with both the emotionally aware and the more cerebral.
4. Among the modalities and models I apply with clients: ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy); CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy); CFT(compassion-focused therapy); SFBT (solution-focused therapy); insight-oriented therapy; existential elements; Gottman relationship & marriage skills; MBTI and Enneagram personality type...and a good deal more.
5. The part I can be of help with is the talking and listening part, and the teaching and practicing of psychological and interpersonal skills--the counseling and therapy. I don't prescribe medication. If you need medication, a psychiatrist is the one who can prescribe it. (Some of my clients take medication, and some don't. I'm fine with either approach. Again, though, I'm not the one who would prescribe any medication that might be wanted.)
6. All my clients are self-pay. I do not bill insurance companies, or take insurance as payment. (Clients either have sufficient resources to pay for their own counseling/therapy, or their family helps pay for it.) The fee for all sessions but the first is $120, with a one-time slightly higher fee of $150 for the assessment/1st session.
7. There are a number of counseling agencies and practices around Tulsa that offer sliding scale or discount rates. My practice does not happen to be one of them. I encourage a person to only begin working with a counselor/therapist whose fees they can continue to pay for a series of sessions. This improves the odds of therapeutic success.
8. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I have only been working with clients remotely--in most cases, by phone. Once the public health situation has improved to the point that sitting in a room talking to a person for an extended period of time is widely considered safe, I'll again make available in-person sessions. For now, though, I continue to do good work remotely. (Also, because I don't take insurance, there's no relevance to whether one's insurance company will reimburse for remote sessions.)
If you think I might be able to be of assistance to you, don't hesitate to call me at (918) 809-4777.
