Melanie Huska
Regardless of what brings you to therapy, everyone brings their own wisdom and strengths, so I aim to meet you with respect and radical acceptance. I come to this work after training and working as a professor of Latin American history, and these experiences have shaped my approach to therapeutic work. My passion is working with college and university undergrad and graduate students and faculty. I view therapy as a critical component of wellness, which is essential for true accessibility at all levels of higher education. As a former historian, I’m deeply curious about the ways in which the past shapes and informs the present. As a therapist, I’m drawn to look at the past to understand present emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and I am always attentive to the role of systemic and social barriers at play.
I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, identity formation (gender, sexuality, race, general), imposter syndrome, stress, lack of coping skills, grief, self-esteem, and body image. Depending on your feedback and needs, I draw on a variety of modalities such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Relational-Cultural Therapy, and mindfulness techniques. Regardless of what therapeutic approach I employ, my work always aims to be feminist, systemic, and trauma-informed.
For fun I enjoy reading, gardening, sewing, knitting, weaving, pottery, cooking, and playing with my mischievous cats.
