Psychologist, Ph.D.
Last Updated 30+ days ago

I have experience working with a wide range of mood and anxiety disorders and with a wide range of people. I have specialized training in working with gender identity, complex trauma, OCD, panic, and dissociation.

I believe that even the most distressing, baffling, or destructive habit patterns can be understood and transformed with compassionate curiosity. I operate under the assumption that people ultimately make sense within their developmental contexts; often the very behaviors or reactions we hate in ourselves or want to change, typically develop as coping patterns to exist in a world that can be hostile to various aspects of who we are. I view the initial work of psychotherapy as learning how to identify how certain patterns of thinking, feeling, or behaving may have helped you to survive and function in the past, how they are or are not serving you now, and how to hold on to what works and let go of what doesn't.

My first goal in working with clients is to get a sense of their internal and external world and identify the conflicts they experience on various levels (e.g. between parts of themselves, or within their environment or relationships). From there, our goal will be to develop ways to interact with those various sources of distress (both internally and externally) to foster relief and stability. Finally, once a sense of safety and trust has been established, we can engage in the deeper work of healing underlying wounds that have historically driven the behaviors that brought you into therapy in the first place.
