Do you find yourself asking what makes it difficult to do what you need to do? What made you believe you weren’t good at that? What made you so hard on yourself? Why do you tell yourself harsh things you wouldn’t say to a stranger in a supermarket? What lies underneath your anger? What could you apologize to yourself for? What comfort does your “bad” habit give you? What would it feel like to express your emotions? What would you need to feel safe?
Life can feel relentless, overwhelming and out of control. Together we can work to find a greater sense of autonomy in your life. My primary therapeutic approach is from a humanistic existentialist lens which takes into account the social and cultural context of our lives and I apply various techniques to most efficiently and respectively work with the individual I am present with. I embrace and utilize integrative approaches.
As a lifelong Oregonian, I strongly believe in connection within my own community while simultaneously maintaining strong interpersonal boundaries. As your therapist I acknowledge that we may interact in shared communities and will respect your privacy and maintain therapeutic boundaries to ensure that we maintain our therapeutic alliance. I have experience working with adjustment to disability for individuals and their partners, adjustment to returning to the community post-incarceration, and pornography addiction/sexual preoccupation.
