Lauren Amiton, LPC
Therapy can be a place to better understand yourself, but it can also be a place to figure out what actually helps. My approach combines insight with practical strategies for making everyday life more manageable.
I work with adults experiencing ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and difficulty managing the demands of everyday life. I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults, including people who were diagnosed with ADHD or autism later in life or who are beginning to recognize these patterns in themselves.
For ADHD and executive functioning difficulties, we identify the specific patterns that are creating problems in your life and develop strategies to address them. This might include difficulties with organization, task initiation, motivation, time management, emotional regulation, routines, transitions, or feeling chronically overwhelmed. Rather than simply telling you to try harder or be more disciplined, we look for practical ways to make things easier and build systems that work with the way your brain functions.
For autistic and other neurodivergent clients, therapy can also provide space to better understand your needs, recognize patterns of masking and burnout, navigate relationships and communication, and find ways of moving through the world that require less constant effort.
My approach draws from CBT, humanistic therapy, mindfulness, and practical problem-solving. Therapy is collaborative and individualized: we can explore where patterns come from when that is useful, while also focusing on what can make life work better now. The goal is not to change who you are, but to reduce unnecessary struggle, build useful skills, and help you create a life that fits you better.
