Laura Bruen/CenterMe Counseling
Hello! I’m glad you decided to start looking for a therapist! This suggests you are ready to stop being stuck in your head and move forward by getting the help you need. College can be exciting but very overwhelming. Along with some really cool experiences it can bring a sense of disconnection, loneliness, anxiety, fear, self-doubt and depression. You do not have to manage this alone!
I work with students who may be waking up in the morning wondering how are they going to fake their way through the day. I’m here for the student struggling to find their people, masking their discomfort, digging deep for motivation, fighting anxiety or depression, questioning their choices, lacking focus, engaging in negative self talk, comparing themselves to others, and wishing things could just get easier.
Therapy allows you space to talk about what’s on your mind and get some professional, non-biased feedback about your situation. I provide a supportive space that allows you the opportunity to explore your feelings and develop coping skills and solid practical solutions for whatever it is that is keeping you from your full potential. Together, some of the things we will focus on are: building self-confidence, improving social connection and managing stress. I allow you to set the pace. I’ll be empathically listening and identifying patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that are unique to your situation. Through these observations we will be able to prioritize the main issues that are hindering positive change. We’ll work collaboratively to come up with a doable plan that suits your particular needs.
Reaching out to a therapist is a courageous first step. I commend you for caring enough about your well-being to seek help.
