Kelsey Lockard
Being a human is hard and sometimes we can feel lost, stuck, or alone. We develop ways of existing in the world that allow us to survive, but sometimes these patterns of coping block our ability to connect to ourselves with compassion. Therapy can be a way to identify these unhelpful patterns and reconnect to our wholeness and innate wisdom. My role as a counselor is to walk beside you on this journey, providing a safe space for a gentle and curious exploration of the wounds you have experienced and the ways you have learned to survive. As your counselor you can expect me to deeply listen to your experiences, offer feedback and insights, and help identify patterns and beliefs that may be getting in your way.
My approach to therapy is integrative and grounded in evidence-based practices. I am primarily influenced by Attachment Theory through an anti-oppression lens. This means that I will create a safe space for you to explore and unpack the harmful and unhelpful messages you have internalized about yourself from childhood, traumatic experiences, or from just being a human in this world. I believe the therapeutic relationship needs to be handled with sensitivity, compassion, and respect for you as an individual and your lived experiences. I will always strive to make our work together a safe and affirming space for all parts of your identity.
A therapeutic experience grounded in empathy can be incredibly healing for any and all individuals. I work with clients who would like to decrease shame/self-hate and increase self-compassion. People also see me for many other reasons, including: anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, perfectionism, people pleasing, trauma, empowerment, exploration of identity, social anxiety, coping skills, internalized oppression, difficulties in relationships, self-esteem, grief & loss, codependency, individuation from family of origin, parenting, life transitions, and stress.
