Karis Callaway
For the past 15 years, I have found myself in various roles in different helping professions. In 2007, I graduated with my degree in Psychology from Louisiana State University and set out to travel the world. After a 7 year stint that included Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN and then Calcutta, India, I settled in the hills of Virginia to pursue my studies in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked in many roles from Crisis Stabilization clinician to Clinical Supervisor, but I find my greatest fulfillment in connecting with clients in the outpatient office.
As a therapist, I am drawn to the genuine connection developed in the therapy room and work really hard to preserve the safety that is needed to encounter some of our deepest pain. I hope that my clients will feel a sense of "togetherness" as we journey into the parts of ourselves that have been lost at times. I have found that as we sift through life experiences, the thoughts, feelings and beliefs that have been developed about the world, self and others tend to make sense. I then want to provide a space to examine the roots of our life, honor these roots, and then integrate them into your current framework. It is one of my life's greatest honors to sift through these and reprocess how they have impacted us.
I work with individuals, couples and families who seek wholeness and integration so that their "inside matches their outside," as I like to say. I utilize an eclectic approach and with a trauma-informed attachment perspective. I have been trained in treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and have received training regarding working with victims of sexual abuse.
In my spare time you'll find me cheering for the LSU Tigers, reading books about counseling and spirituality and spending time with my husband and son while we renovate our 107-year-old house and find waterfalls to jump in.
