Karen Campbell
My experience as a therapist includes working at the NYU Counseling Services for many years. I have a deep understanding of the challenges both undergraduate and graduate students face with the changes, separations and transitions involved in becoming independent adults. It is a time filled with excitement as well as stress and worries about the future. The internal and external pressures, expectations from family and demands of the academic world can feel overwhelming at times. For graduate and doctoral students, there are the stressors of completing programs, dissertations and the challenges of seeking employment. Students may also be struggling with feeling alone, isolated, anxious, depressed, dealing with body image self-esteem and sexuality issues as well as social pressures around alcohol and other substances.
Therapy can help in navigating these challenges, offer insight and reduce stress. I am a compassionate, extensively trained and interactive therapist. Together, we can work to develop strategies, address negative patterns of thought and behaviors, manage stress and help you deal with relationships more effectively. I am also trained and certified in clinical hypnosis which can be very useful in managing the physical and psychological symptoms of stress and anxiety including phobias, GI issues such as IBS as well as reducing symptoms of depression while increasing self-confidence and success.
