People seek out therapy for many reasons, but in my experience most patients enter treatment in the middle of something. Perhaps you're wondering why you feel the way you do or have the same distressing thoughts over and over. Some are curious why they can't seem to stop repeating evidently self-defeating patterns of behavior. Maybe you're anxious about a chosen or unchosen life transition. Or you just feel stuck. Therapy can clarify your current situation, help you gain an understanding of how you arrived at this point, and begin to formulate a healthy path forward. I have three orienting goals to my therapeutic approach. First, we will work on generating and expanding moments of your personal freedom. Second, we will cultivate an enhanced understanding of yourself and those around you. And overall, together we will establish meaningful and durable psychological change.

There are many roads to a healthier life and part of my initial work will be to collaborate with you on an approach that feels right. I am primarily a psychodynamic therapist, which means that I focus on better understanding the internal forces and memories that affect our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in ways that might feel confusing and operate outside of our everyday awareness. Addressing and understanding these psychological dynamics can be life changing. However, I retain an open and integrative therapeutic approach and am experienced in cognitive and behavioral therapies.

I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York City. Although my practice is broadly oriented toward general adult psychotherapy, I also have specialized training in treatments for severe personality disorders and trauma.
