John Rapp, LCSW, LLC
Therapy can do more than relieve symptoms; it can alter a life’s course. People often come to me feeling caught between what they think and what they feel, struggling with worry, loss, disconnection, or the loss of meaning. Our work may involve facing what has felt too painful to confront, understanding patterns that repeat, and rebuilding a sense of trust in oneself and others. I’m best suited to those who sense that their difficulties arise not only from circumstance, but from the meanings they’ve had to make alone and who are drawn to self-discovery as a path toward change.
I began practicing in 2010 at an eating disorder center, later working with individuals with OCD, PTSD, or borderline personality disorder. I helped build two DBT programs and eventually served as a clinical director, supervising and training therapists before moving into private practice. My style is authentic, direct, and intellectually curious.
I aim to understand deeply and share impressions when the timing feels right. Exploring what makes this mutual understanding hard to sustain can be transformative. I draw on scientifically-supported approaches to work through meaning of symptoms and create change. I may be less appealing to those seeking concrete strategies or practical advice.
