Hello! I'm Hannah, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Virginia Board of Counseling Approved Clinical Supervisor (LPC-S) here in Virginia. Additionally, I'm a Registered Art Therapist (ATR), currently working toward Art Therapy Board Certification through the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB). With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, I've had the privilege of working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, including pregnant mothers, children, adolescents, teenagers, parents, and older individuals. My professional journey has taken me through various settings such as in-home, outpatient, schools, and community programs, allowing me to gain a diverse and rich perspective on mental health care.
In my practice, I approach each interaction with curiosity and a willingness to learn. I see the therapeutic relationship as a partnership where we collaborate to identify what works best for you and set appropriate goals for your journey. By focusing on the present moment and making small, achievable changes, we can build confidence and motivation to tackle larger challenges.
One of my guiding principles in Art Therapy is the idea that 'it is about the process, rather than the product.' This philosophy extends to our life experiences and therapy itself. Often, the answers we seek emerge during the process of exploration and learning. Through various therapeutic techniques, especially Art Therapy, I aim to offer you the opportunity for discovery and growth. You don't need to be an artist to benefit from Art Therapy; it's about the power of creating and the insights that come from it.
I also incorporate a range of other therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centered, Supportive and Motivational Therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, Attachment-Based Therapy, Humanistic/Existential Therapy, Mindfulness-Based techniques, Psychodynamic Therapy, Reality Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy.
Much of my work focuses on helping individuals navigate stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, and more. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a powerful tool that can positively impact other areas of your life as well.
I look forward to potentially meeting you, learning about you, and supporting you on your journey. If you're interested in working together, please send me a message.
Take good care!
Hannah
