Whether this is your first time seeking therapy, or you have engaged in therapy in the past, we will work together toward cultivating the self-awareness and tools you need to make lasting change. My belief is that you already have everything you need to be your best self and live a full and meaningful life. If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’ve encountered some obstacles in your path. Maybe it’s difficulty coping with a transition, or feeling unsure about “What’s next?” Maybe you struggle with painful emotions or a depressed mood. Maybe you have suffered a loss or a trauma. Whatever brings you to therapy now, my role is to provide a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings and help you get “unstuck” from the patterns of thinking and behavior that are no longer serving you.
“Let difficulty transform you. And it will. In my experience, we just need help in learning how not to run away.” ~Pema Chodron
You are doing the best you can. I truly believe that. And you have likely developed ways of pushing away a difficult past or challenging emotions that are simply not working for you any longer. Not to worry, therapy is not about diving headfirst into the deep end of your pain and suffering. Rather, it’s about gently (and with loads of self compassion!) helping you learn and practice the skills you need for tolerating and being with your experience so that you can better understand it and move forward. With self awareness comes choice, and with choice the ability to learn new ways of coping with the stressors life throws your way.
“The only way out is through.” ~Robert Frost
We will work collaboratively on developing a plan that will help you reach your goals. We will discuss the pace, frequency of visits, and duration of treatment. I tend to be very active in session, so if you have had the experience of 50 minutes of nodding and ‘mm-hm’ you will not get that here! I will listen carefully and ask thoughtful questions to help you challenge long held thoughts and beliefs and explore different perspectives. I use humor when appropriate (yes, you can laugh in therapy!) and will offer direct feedback (with your permission of course!) I am not perfect, don’t have all the answers, and so do not expect that from you!
I can provide you with paperwork for reimbursement from your insurance company if you are seeking out-of-network sessions.
