Emily Christensen earned her B.S. in Human Development, her M.S. in Professional Counseling, an MDiv in Pastoral Counseling, and her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Dr. Christensen works as licensed clinical counselor, as a life coach, as a community and hospital non/interfaith chaplain, as well as the training coordinator for the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.
As a licensed clinical counselor, she has been in private practice since 2004, with additional experience in ER triage, inpatient psychiatric, residential treatment, school-based, and outpatient settings. Dr. Christensen is currently the international clinical coordinator for humanitarian aid organizations offering counseling and trauma resiliency training to government leaders, humanitarian aid workers, and first responders in war zones and natural disaster sites. Dr. Christensen lectures internationally about trauma and resiliency, as well as producing a podcast that airs in 64 countries.
Besides numerous syndicated articles online about mental health issues, she is the author of the memoir "Keeping Kyrie" about the gathering of her family, as well as several related children's books.
Following the deaths of her own parents, and with the changing needs of her life through fostering and the adoption of special needs children, her practice shifted so that her work would be accessible anytime online rather than office-based. Enduring grief as well as her own cancer battle, while also enjoying marriage to her musical-theater writing husband, led her through an unexpected life journey (or several). Together, insights and healing from these experiences were compounded exponentially as Emily received counsel and training to help others endure hard things. Drawing on both her clinical and life experiences, she connects with clients through the richness and authenticity that the depths of sorrow, trauma, and life transitions can bring.
