Ellie Cates
Welcome! Amidst the individual and collective suffering in our world, to begin this journey towards wellness and healing can feel challenging, but can also offer connection and hope. I strive to create an accepting and supportive space in therapy for you to feel truly seen and heard. I bring compassion, warmth, and unconditional positive regard to this space and believe that healing can happen through supported exploration, and compassionate connection to trusting and caring humans. I often incorporate humor as a connection point with clients and bring in gentle challenging where needed. It is important to me that we incorporate approaches which honor your unique needs - I hope that this can be a space in which you feel supported and celebrated.
I work with clients on a diverse range of subjects, such as: body image, existential struggles, climate grief, self-esteem/self-compassion, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, ADHD, trauma, life changes. I also work with individuals in addressing burnout relating to life/work and academics, as well as activism and advocacy. I often incorporate a systems framework in acknowledging the various entities which impact mental health.
I offer an integrative approach in tailoring our appointments to meet your therapeutic needs, which may shift as we move through this journey. I utilize an acceptance and commitment therapy approach and incorporate solution-focused approaches, CBT, and elements of emotion-focused therapy. I am also able to offer EMDR.
Additional Training:
I have completed a certificate program in eating disorder counseling through Lewis and Clark. I also recently completed a climate psychology certificate program through the California Institute of Integral Studies. I am EMDR-trained through EMDR Consulting.
Insurance: I am in network with Pacific Source commercial, numerous OHP plans (to include IHN), Cigna, Aetna, and Moda. I am in the process of becoming in-network with BCBS, Kaiser, and United Healthcare.
