Finding the right therapist is an important and thoughtful process. You want to find someone who ‘gets’ you, and who you can trust to be straightforward with you about your role in problems, and what steps you need to take. You want a person with solid credentials and experience, yet who is open, willing to listen, and who will consider a variety of treatment options with you.
Clients have told me they appreciate my straightforwardness and compassion. I would characterize myself as contemplative and thoughtful, yet I am not the kind of therapist who will leave you ‘on the couch’ while I utter “mm-hmm”. I like to balance insight with concrete information and skills you can use to work between sessions.
My goal is to foster respectful and collaborative partnerships with clients who are motivated to make changes in their lives. Being a psychologist has special meaning to me, and I care deeply about my work.
