Cindy Huang grew up in Taiwan and is a native speaker of Chinese Mandarin. As a naturalized citizen herself, Cindy cares about international students and is passionate about generating awareness and providing support for mental health in the immigrants and Asian American communities.
Cindy did her 1.5 years internship at LRADAC (Lexington Richland Alcohol & Drugs Addiction Center) and worked one year in the Adult Services at DMH (Dept of Mental Health). She is familiar with the substance-related and medically-supported outpatient treatment,
Before becoming a counselor, Cindy served as a professional interpreter for the SC state court, US federal court, Dept of Social Services (DSS), and the Special Educaation Program for 5 School Districts in the Richland and Lexington Counties since 2013. While interpreting Cindy discovered that many cases involved mental health issues. Oftentimes the issues derive from the language barriers that caused miscommunication and misunderstanding. Othertimes, the frustration deepens when the helpers do not really understand the concepts and context of the client's cultural background or worldview, such as the conflict between self realization and family expectation as well as parenting styles, etc.
