Unapologetic Life Therapy is a practice that centers the experiences and challenges that are unique to Black women and women of color who are often considered by themselves and others as “high achieving” and/or “high functioning”. I specialize in life transitions, identity exploration, adjustment concerns, and navigating difficult workplace and classroom experiences. Potential clients might be considered "the strong friend", the Superwoman, the oldest daughter, or just the one who has it all figured out. These assumptions can make it difficult to ask for help or to feel seen or heard. The therapy journey will begin by acknowledging the impact that systems such as society, our families, our universities, our churches, and other institutions might have on our perceptions of ourselves and our own power. While some people might come in with more specific concerns such as anxiety or depression, others might come in with simply the feeling of being overwhelmed and at their limit. Together, we will work to understand what factors contributed to being in this particular moment – as symptoms are often valid responses to outside circumstances that felt unreasonable or unmanageable – and decide how to create a more desirable and empowered life for the future.
