Young people often have a mistrust of people in the helping profession because many are too cerebral, too impersonal and too disconnected from their reality!
I have been working with young people not by accident but because I enjoy working with them. High-school and college aged students are real and I appreciate how honest they are with what they think and feel and need.
I keep therapy on the lighter side not as a strategy, but because it's who I am as a person. I am a rare therapist in that I also do stand up comedy on the side. I integrate light humor into my work as an extension of my personality. Counseling can be stressful, but I work hard to make it not be. It's an opportunity to explore your life and not feel like a patient while we are making sense of things.
