Hi, my name is Ashley Hurdle. I was born and raised in Greenville, NC where I grew up on a family farm. There’s nothing quite like growing up with no neighbors, fields for miles, and all kinds of animals, including donkeys and a possum. I always knew I wanted to attend ECU and follow in the footsteps of the women in my family that came before me. I was blessed to be a fourth generation Pirate when I received my Bachelor’s in Social Work and Master’s in Social work. While attending ECU, I participated in on campus activities including a service sorority, BSW/MSW student association, mentoring and tutoring student athletes, and volunteer work with local elementary students. During my Bachelor’s and Master’s program I had the privilege of interning at three different placements that gave me invaluable work experience. My internships include the Behavioral Health Unit at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, Vidant Medical Center’s Women and Children Hospital, and PORT Methadone Clinic

After completing my Master’s, I started my social work career in community mental health. I worked for 3 years in Lenior, Greene, Beaufort, and Wayne County on an ACT Team that worked with clients in their home to address their severe and persistent mental illness. While on the ACT Team, I served as the therapist and the Team Lead. Meeting clients in their homes to explore their struggles with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and trauma gave me the best experience of connecting with individuals in their most vulnerable spaces. I’ll always remember the profound progress that was made by these amazing individuals, in spite of dealing with some of the most complex concerns. Following my time on the ACT Team, I transitioned to what felt like home at ECU’s Center for Counseling and Student Development. I have worked for the last four years with ECU college students processing anything from adjustment concerns to severe trauma. My time at ECU has been incredibly rewarding being able to see students find themselves as young adults and process some of the most difficult traumas and mental health concerns.

After having the privilege of seeing so many individuals grow and heal their mental health, I started to explore the idea of starting a private practice so I could serve more people of all walks of life. So in January 2022, I made the leap and started the process of opening up my private practice and contracting work. This included working as a contract therapist where I work with Veterans, active duty service men and women, and their dependents. In March 2022 I was able to open my schedule to private practice clients. With nearly 10 years of clinical experience and working with countless populations and concerns, I am excited to continue my work in the mental health field with client’s in the private practice setting. I would love to get to know you and talk about what brings you to seek counseling services at this time.
