My grandmother developed Alzheimer’s when I was a teenager. It was really difficult to watch her deteriorate and the impact it had on my family. I decided then, that I wanted to get into mental health so I could help people going through similar difficult situations. I make it a priority to focus all my attention on my clients. Even in telehealth I make sure to be fully present, aware and tuned into what my clients are saying. It’s important for me to stay focused on what’s going on in front of me and create a safe, comfortable and judgement-free space for my clients to share their thoughts and feelings. I use humor, empathy, support and warmth to create a judgement free space for my clients to discuss whatever they are struggling with. I emphasize that: its not my place to tell you how to live your life, what to do or what decisions to make. You alone know what the right things are for your. All I can do is support, educate, validate and reflect back what you are coming in with in order to help you work through your struggles.
