From Broken Therapy
As my practice’s name implies, we can all feel broken at times.
And to compound matters, we might face discrimination through no fault of our own—on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender, finances, age, health or ability status, or neurocognitive differences. In my years of practice with the chronically ill and under-housed, I’ve seen and addressed the fallout from stigma and institutional barriers all day every day.
So that’s the bad news, which you probably already know.
The good news is that with skillful therapeutic support, everyone can find the materials to build lives that authentically reflect our values, preferences, and needs.
As with the ancient art of kintsukuroi, a Japanese approach to repairing pottery, the transformations we refine in therapy are valuable—golden insight that fills the cracks in our lives and enables us to live with greater joy, compassion, and meaning.
And of course, this looks different for different people, especially where cultural or religious differences are concerned. I know this because I was born in Brazil, have lived internationally, and so have a global perspective.
My availability is 10am to 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I am licensed to accept clients in Maryland and Maine.
