Allison believes therapy is just as much about building on strengths as it is about ameliorating problems. She is passionate about partnering with clients to address the barriers to their ability to thrive. Her approach is characterized by directness and authenticity, along with non-judgment, compassion, and humor. Allison balances acceptance of emotions with providing actionable skills for creating change.
Allison specializes in working with young adults looking for support in navigating life transitions, managing stress, and regulating emotions. She also offers individual DBT skills coaching for clients who wish to develop skills for modulating emotions, tolerating distress, improving interpersonal effectiveness, and enhancing mindfulness. She is trained in evidence-based therapy approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), among many others. Her training included counseling undergraduate students at Boston College and providing DBT at Massachusetts Mental Health Center.
Allison previously held positions at McLean Hospital in the Depression and Anxiety Disorders and Psychotic Disorders Divisions, and at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Intravenous Ketamine Clinic for Depression. She is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
