Alia Azmat
Hello and welcome! If you are reading this, you might be feeling stuck, frustrated, or upset with yourself or others in your life. I am encouraged that you've started to explore your mental health options around feeling better. Whether you are starting therapy for the first time or returning to therapy, it is normal to be curious, scared, and maybe even overwhelmed when starting with a new therapist. Given all these factors, know that I approach your life story and symptoms with curiosity, compassion, cultural context, and confidentiality. I am a second-generation Pakistani Muslim woman and take a culturally-humble stance with ALL my clients.
We might be a good fit if you enjoy taking care of others but struggle to make time for yourself, if you are questioning parts of your identity, or if you are struggling to make meaningful connections with others in this season of your life. I have expertise with a variety of concerns including but not limited to anxiety, depression, family of origin concerns, internalized racism and sexism, eating concerns, grief/loss, self-esteem, trauma and burnout. If you are someone struggling with feelings of hopelessness and a lack of motivation, irritability, racing thoughts, excessive worry, or PTSD or you are someone navigating a change in your life such as a new job, a new relationship, or spiritual doubt I encourage you to reach out for a 15min consultation.
Our first few sessions will include building trust, and exploring how I can support you on your healing journey. With time, we will talk together on how your history, and the roles you play in life might be holding you back from genuine, authentic, and compassion centered relationships. I use research-based methods such as Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT) as well and creative methods such as music, movement, and laughter in session :)
I am a pre-licensed professional / post-doctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Anna Trad. My self-pay / out-of-pocket rate for a session is $150. I currently do not take insurance, however I am happy to provide a “superbill" for you submit for insurance reimbursement. In our experience, once insurance companies receive this form they reimburse you their portion of the sessions. For Emory Atena students, this also means once you have reached your yearly deductible through superbills your services will be covered minus the copayment.
